"It's a Privilege to Be a Safe Place for Kids."
For Lindsay and Jon, foster care was always something on their hearts. After seeing their friends step into the foster parent role, they felt it was something they could take on, too. They decided to begin the process of becoming licensed and haven’t looked back since. Six years later, what began as a calling has become a way of life rooted in compassion and a deep belief in kids and their families.
Their approach to caring for kids in foster care is holistic, ensuring the child grows deep connections with not only their foster family, but their biological family, as well.
“I love you so much, therefore I love your biological parents so much,” said Lindsay about her approach. They believe foster care works best when it supports reunification whenever possible, and they are intentional about encouraging, supporting, and holding space for growth.
They admit foster parenting is not always easy. It requires constant communication, flexibility, and a willingness to recognize what is best for everyone in your home. But for Lindsay and Jon, the impact is far-reaching. They have seen how being foster parents has shaped their own kids, building empathy and creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about the world around them. “It’s a gift we can give our kids while also supporting another child and family,” Lindsay shared.
Their partnership with CEDARS has helped sustain that work. With consistent communication and a dedicated support worker, they are not navigating foster care alone. “Just knowing we have someone in our corner makes a huge difference,” Jon said.
What keeps them saying yes is simple: the need is constant, and they have the ability to meet it. “It’s a privilege to be a safe place for kids,” Jon said.
During Foster Parent Appreciation Month, their story is a reminder that foster care is about being here for kids and families when it matters most. Thank you, Lindsay and Jon, for all that you do for the kids we serve!
