Ciera's Story
When 15-year-old Ciera came to CEDARS, she was struggling to believe in her worth. The trauma she experienced during her childhood led her to feel discouraged and alone – feelings no kid should ever experience.
After arriving at CEDARS, staff worked to form R.I.C.H. relationships with her – that is, relationships founded on respect, information, connection, and hope. They did this by engaging Ciera in fun activities, creating reaffirmation posters for her bedroom, and spending countless hours helping her process her emotions. Over time, they saw Ciera become more comfortable and confident in herself. She improved her grades in school and started to feel hopeful that she would one day find the right place to call home.
Ciera recently connected with a foster family that gave her the things she had been longing for: her own bedroom, the ability to maintain online schooling, and even a puppy! By the time she left CEDARS, Ciera had built healthy relationships with the staff, many of whom she continues to keep in touch with.
By being here for Ciera, CEDARS was able to help her grow her confidence and believe in her worth. No matter the circumstances, CEDARS is here for kids.
