Aaliyah and Athena's Story
Nineteen-year-old Aaliyah was about to become a first-time mother when she found herself experiencing homelessness. Scared and uncertain, she didn’t know where to go. She didn’t know who could help her. Then she found CEDARS.
CEDARS staff helped Aaliyah find a safe place to live. They provided parenting skills and helped her prepare for the arrival of her baby. Aaliyah’s CEDARS family partners assisted her in setting up doctor’s visits, meetings with a lactation consultant, and made sure she had the necessities for bringing her baby home.
Aaliyah’s baby girl, Athena, was just born last month. She is thankful that Athena has a safe place to sleep and that they will have warmth and shelter during the holidays because of CEDARS.
