Learning Objectives:
- Recognize Prevalence and Vulnerability: Attendees will understand the prevalence of CSE among young males and the specific demographic, systemic, and psychosocial factors that increase their vulnerability.
- Identify Impacts and Needs: Attendees will identify the psychological, physical, behavioral, and social outcomes of CSE for young males and the long-term effects on their health, development, and well-being.
- Analyze and Act: Attendees will use insights from the research to identify gaps in research, policy, and program offerings related to the commercial sexual exploitation of young males within their respective communities and professional roles.
Presenters:
Nathan Earl is a Master of Public Health student and a public health advisor at Giantslayer. He is also the Director of the Men’s Haven Health Initiative in New Haven, Connecticut. Mr. Earl's work focuses on commercialized violence against marginalized males, employing syndemic approaches to prevention and treatment, and advocating for system-level transformation. He is dedicated to advancing health equity and improving access to healthcare for underserved male populations.
Dr. Kenny is a Professor of Psychology and Associate Chair of Academic Personnel and Diversity in the Department of Psychology. She is a faculty member in the Applied Social and Cultural Psychology Program. She has published extensively in the area of child maltreatment, with a specific focus on child sexual abuse, prevention and treatment with diverse populations. Her work also addresses the issue of mandatory reporting laws among professionals.
Kevin Ortiz-Diaz is a second year doctoral student in the Applied Social and Cultural Psychology doctoral program in the Department of Psychology at FIU. Kevin holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Central Florida and a second Bachelor’s degree in biology from Florida Gulf Coast University. He also has a record of distinguished service in the US Navy.
