This training is part of Strengthening Nebraska's Response to Domestic Violence: 2026-2027, Interdisciplinary Virtual Training Series. This five-session training program equips professionals across Nebraska’s domestic violence response systems with the knowledge and skills to improve victim support, strengthen collaboration, and enhance statewide responses. Topics include domestic violence dynamics, lethality, stalking, co-occurring abuse, trauma-informed practices, offender intervention, investigations, documentation, Nebraska laws, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Session 5: Building Trust & Safety: Domestic Violence Response in Tribal, Immigrant, & Diverse Communities

Invisible Barriers: Immigration, Legal Status, & Domestic Violence Safety Planning
Course Description: This session explores the intersection of domestic violence and immigration, focusing on survivors who are undocumented or have unstable legal status. Participants will examine how perpetrators use immigration-related fear and misinformation to maintain control and prevent reporting. The session provides an overview of protections including U Visas, T Visas, and VAWA self-petitions, along with safety planning strategies that support trust, confidentiality, and survivor stability.

Beyond the Basics: Domestic Violence in Tribal Communities & Jurisdictional Response
Course Description: This session explores domestic violence dynamics impacting Native American and Alaska Native survivors, including historical trauma, community barriers, and unique offender patterns. Participants will examine jurisdictional issues involving tribal, state, and federal authority, including how these complexities affect investigations, charging decisions, and survivor safety. Emphasis will be placed on culturally responsive practices, improving interagency collaboration, and strengthening accountability while respecting tribal sovereignty.

Culture, Credibility, & Barriers: Domestic Violence Response Across Nebraska's Diverse Communities
Course Description: This session explores how race, ethnicity, culture, and lived experience shape disclosure, help-seeking, and system involvement in domestic violence cases across Nebraska. Participants will examine barriers such as stigma, language access, and systemic inequities, as well as how bias can impact credibility assessments and outcomes. Practical strategies will be shared for culturally responsive interviewing, interpretation best practices, and collaborative safety planning.

Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all five sessions in order to receive credit for the full training series. Attendance for each session will be tracked. This interdisciplinary training is structured to enhance cross-disciplinary understanding and strengthen collaborative responses to domestic violence in Nebraska.
